Right, I imagine this is fairly simple for the more seasoned gardener.
Whatever it is, it rivals the apple tree next to it for height and keenness to impress. But it's not a tree, even if it thinks it is. The flowers are a bit sickly pink for my liking, and I'm not a fan of the leaves - make your mind up leaf, light or dark? None of this fancy business.
So, can anyone name this confused flower/tree for me?
This blog is all about the trials of an amateur kitchen gardener in Bristol, UK. If to be lazy is to be immature, then to grow your own food is surely the peak of maturity? Time to 'man up' and live the Good Life

- I only feel hapless because some people make it look easy to grow 10 ft marrows or a banquet of greens whereas my courgettes got nabbed by killer slugs and I only got one raspberry. So tips and stories from people less hapless than I are more than welcome. It's a variegated weigela. I've got one in my garden.
Thank you Margaret, does your grow heartily in the way mine seems to?! I tried cutting it back last year, to some effect but it seems to have invigorated it!
It does grow well, you can prune it every year after flowering. I just cut it back when it starts to get in the way
