Until the evening post...

My body had a fight with my alarm clock this morning and as a result I've run out of time to write a proper post.  The bed. Blogger's ruin.

So until later I'll leave you with this snap from a visit to the rather impressive Rococo gardens at Painswick yesterday. As ever, I have no clue as to what it is, but it looks like a good, blokey sort of plant. All I could think, from bitter experience was 'if this was a sea urchin, I'd have stepped on it...'

It looks like sea holly.

I think it's just a thistle flower. Not very glam but lovely contrast with lisianthus for example

I think that is some kind of echinops Tom, or globe thistle. Try to be careful and not hurt yourself today stepping on anything sharp...especially after that rough beginning with the alarm clock.

Thank you for the comments - Elaine, I did find a few stunning images of sea holly that looked similar, although a couple of people including LinnieW have suggested globe thistle. Urvashi, I struggle with working out just one flower - I'm not sure I can multitask here!!

Meanwhile, on Twitter @ceekees has suggested christening this "thistle only hurt a little"

It's a firework on a stick.

I only feel hapless because some people make it look easy to grow 10 ft marrows or a banquet of greens whereas my courgettes got nabbed by killer slugs and I only got one raspberry. So tips and stories from people less hapless than I are more than welcome.
